The Baymont Inn and Suites officially opened its doors Monday evening during a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house. The four-story hotel holds 117 rooms and eight suites. It also features such accommodations as free complimentary breakfast and laundry services. The hotel is managed by Presque Isle Downs and Casino, a partnership neither side sees as a gamble.
"This is the only hotel within walking distance of the casino,” said Bruce Thaler, managing partner for BT Management Group. “For us, we wanted to build off of that service. We wanted to be the casino's partner so we could offer the casino a place for their customers to stay."
"We do expect our visitors to stay a little bit longer,” said Jennifer See, marketing director for Presque Isle Downs and Casino. “There's so much for people to see and do in Erie and this provides another outlet for them to do so."
Half of the rooms feature queen-size beds; the other half are king-size.
The hotel opened in May for a trial run, one that managing partner Thaler calls successful.
"We have a lot of people booking on a daily basis and our business from the day we opened has grown every day,” he said. “Weekends are already selling out, and we expect a lot more days to sell out as people know that we're open."
Presque Isle Downs officials say having the hotel right across the street from the casino makes everyone involved a winner at the end of the day.
"It's definitely a win-win partnership, and we're really excited about partnering with Baymont Inn and Suites,” See added. “It just gives our players another amenity and gives them another reason to stay overnight."
The hotel took nearly one year to build and construction wrapped up shortly before the trial run.
