High Speed Chase Ends with Driver in Custody

Posted: Updated:
A high-speed motorcycle chase on Saturday afternoon Erie ended with the arrest of Michael Malin, 19.
It all started at 12th and Liberty Streets around 3:30pm when a patrol officer noticed two riders on a motorcycle without a license plate.

Police say the driver refused to pull over and took off at a high rate of speed, heading south on Cherry Street while driving recklessly, and running red lights and stop signs.

When the pair thought they lost police, they pulled over by Jefferson Elementary to switch drivers.  But officers caught up and arrested them.

"They were switching spots, driver was going to switch with the passenger, then the patrol cars that were involved in the chase and patrol cars that were coming from the east were able to come up here and take them into custody," said Sergeant Keith Kaschalk. "We don't know yet but probably one of them didn't have a driver's licence or motorcycle license, something like that."
The driver -an adult - faces a long list of charges for fleeing and eluding, speeding and ignoring traffic signals.
