A benefit was held today for a local woman, who has been living with a kidney problem since she was three-years-old.
Meagan Leamer, 21, and her family held the fundraiser to offset medical costs for a kidney transplant she needs after suffering Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). The benefit featured a chinese auction, live music and plenty of food. Leamer says this isn't her first transplant.
"Usually when you get transplants at the age I did, which was five, they don't last because hormones wreak havoc on organs that are transplanted, scar tissue develops, and that's actually what happened. Scar tissue developed on my kidney and it basically killed off my transplanted kidney," Leamer said.
