A lot of needy families will be getting fresh produce during the harvest season, thanks to the combined efforts of Mercyhurst University and the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Food Bank volunteers today began planting on a plot of land on the campus farm at Mercyhurst North East.
The school is making the land available, and 700 vegetable plants were donated.
The project is expected to raise about 20,000 pounds of tomatoes, squash, melons and other produce.
Mariana Skonieczka of the Second Harvest Food Bank said, "We're going to need people who like to weed then , when the harvest season comes, we can use as many people as we can get."
Anyone interested in helping can contact the Second Harvest Food Bank.
