Parking Garage Now Planned for New EMTA Complex

Posted: Updated:
Another parking garage is now planned for downtown Erie.
We've learned that a four deck ramp is now pat of the phase two design of the new $63 million EMTA complex.
Phase one work is now well underway, east of Parade Street between 14th and 15th streets. It will include space for bus maintenance and the authority's LIFT para-transit operation.
Work on phase one is expected to take another year to complete.
Then phase two will start on a storage building for regular buses and the parking ramp at the corner of 14th and French.
The ramp will include offices and employee parking.
But also about 200 public spaces close to Lovell Place, Jr's Last Laugh Comedy Club and several bars and restaurants.
EMTA Executive Director Mike Tann said, "I think it makes the transit authority part of the community beyond just providing bus service. It puts an entity out there that the public can use for a myriad of reasons."
The authority is still working to secure funding for the second phase of the project.
Originally the entire project was expected to take about 10 years to complete.
Planners now think it will be finished in 5-6 years.

The NFL has upheld star wide receiver Josh Gordon's year-long suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. It's a decision that's stirring a lot of controversy. Just last month, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice received a two-game suspension for assaulting his then-fiancé. But now, many fans are comparing these two suspensions. "I think it's absolutely ridiculous that Ray Rice can beat his wife, but someone is going to get in trouble for smoking some marijuana,” said J...More >>
