Millcreek School District officials are hoping to improve traffic at McDowell High School for next school year. Today, Millcreek Supervisors approved a school district plan for a new driveway from Caughey Road to McDowell Intermediate. The driveway would be used solely for parents to drop-off students in the morning and to pick them up in the afternoon. The driveway would be closed the rest of the day.
School officials have been concerned about traffic congestion and student safety at McDowell. They are especially concerned about students who drive to school and park their cars on Caughey Road, east of the high school building. Those students must walk across Caughey to get to the school. Traffic is usually backed-up as vehicles wait for the pedestrians to cross. The school district plans to establish student parking on the west side of the school building to eliminate the walk across Caughey Road.
Three citizens who live near the high school addressed the supervisors today to express their concerns about traffic problems at McDowell.
