Community Turns Out For Pastor Funeral

Posted: Updated:
It was standing room only at the funeral service for Pastor Robert Gaines Jr. Hundreds of people packed the Greater Bethlehem Temple Church at 41st and Washington Avenue to remember the founder of Abundant Life Ministries and the Parade Street Community Center.

Pastor Gaines also started the Non-Violence Initiative, something his followers are committed to continuing. His youngest brother, Anthony Pierce, spoke with us before the funeral service began.  "He would hope that it would continue," said Pierce, "he has a nice nucleus of people working with him and I know he would want it to continue as he set forth with his mission and goals...and I think the neighborhood and the community we're going to plan on doing that."

County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper and Assistant U.S. Attorney Marshall Piccinini were among the community leaders who attended the funeral.
