Erie Times-News Delivery Delayed

Posted: Updated:
If you are a home delivery customer of the Erie Times-News, your newspaper likely was not delivered to your front door this morning, at least not on time. For the past couple of years the "Times" has outsourced the printing of the paper to the presses of the Butler Eagle. This morning, something went wrong.                                                                                                                                                                                                                         At about 5:46 AM, the Erie Times-News used a text alert to let customers know delivery would be delayed, maybe even until Wednesday. In a statement they said,  "Delivery of the Erie Times-News has been delayed or postponed in a number of circulation areas today because of difficulties during the early morning press run."  The statement also said, "Subscribers who do not receive their home delivered newspaper by 10:30 AM, probably won't receive it until Wednesday morning.

Sources at the Times-News said once the papers did arrive, it was all hands on deck from all departments, to distribute them. Even executives helped with bundling the papers and delivering them to doors or to retailers. Dees cigar store on State Street usually gets their stack by 6:00 AM, today the papers arrived two and a half hours late. Some customers even drove to the times news office at 12th and Sassafras to pick up a copy.

Customer Ken Kohl is one person who picked up his paper.  He said reading it every morning and doing the puzzles is part of his daily routine.  "Well, I called my carrier and he said that I guess they had a press breakdown and told him to come pickup the papers two or three times and it just didn't happen," said Kohl.  "He works a full time job, so he said it would be delivered this afternoon, or I could stop down and pick one up."
Late today, publisher Ken Nelson said, I am extremely proud of the staff and the newspaper carriers for all of their efforts to help serve our customers during this rare and challenging event."

The Times-News put out a special password, myetn 2014, for free access to the daily e-edition of the paper, and promised credits for subscribers who missed out on their paper. The Times expects paper delivery to be back on time Wednesday morning. Several thousand Tuesday editions that were held up will be delivered on Wednesday.
