PITTSBURGH, PA (WICU-WSEE) — The Pirates were able to withstand a late comeback from the New York Mets for the game and series victory Sunday afternoon.
After putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first, the Pirates had a strong control of the game. They then added to that lead in the fourth by putting two more runs on the board.
The New York Mets tried to battle back into the game putting two runs on the board in the top of the ninth but were not able catch up to Pirates.
The Pirates are now (42-40) on the season, good for fourth place in the NL Central Division.
They have now won their last three series, including this past weekends four game run with the pirates.
The pirates have six games left in their current ten game home stand, taking on the Arizona Diamond Backs Tuesday through Thursday, and wrapping up with the Phillies Friday to Sunday.
