DETROIT, MI (WICU-WSEE) — The Detroit Tigers are back to their winning ways for the start of their long holiday home stand with a 4-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics.
Over the weekend the Athletics became the first team in major league baseball to reach 50 wins on the season. The Tigers did not let them celebrate the accomplishment long as they are now 5 wins away from the season bench mark.
The two teams seemed evenly matched through the majority of the game, remaining scoreless until the top of the sixth when the A’s put one run on the board. The Tigers then responded with a run of their own tying the game at 1 going into the seventh inning stretch.
The A’s began to pull away putting up three runs in the top of the 8th inning, making some lake game heroics necessary for Brad Ausmus and company.
With three outs left, and behind by three runs, the Tigers put together an inspired four run inning to end the game without extra innings and get the victory 5-4.
This three game series continues Tuesday with a 7:08 start time, before the two teams meet in a special series ending Wednesday afternoon matinee on Wednesday.
