Federal Help Not Likely After Crawford County Flooding

Posted: Updated:

It now appears doubtful that Crawford County municipalities and property owners will get federal help after flash flooding last week.

Titusville and other areas were hard hit by the flooding. So far, the damage to roads, bridges and culverts exceeds $900,000.

However the flooding was limited to just portions of Crawford, Warren, Venango and Forest Counties. And the state threshold for receiving federal flood assistance is quite high.

Don Bovard of  Crawford County Emergency Management said, "So we have almost tripled our county threshold but unfortunately it does not look like the state will meet its threshold of almost $18 million. It means we will not qualify for a presidential declaration of federal assistance."

Many charities and church groups are now helping homeowners cope with damage, mostly flooded basements.
