Crawford Commissioners Schedule Vote on Possible Sheriff Sale of Park

Posted: Updated:

Crawford County commissioners Thursday are expected to decide if they support a planned sheriff sale of Conneaut Lake Park.

A new board of trustees recently took over control of the amusement park, and announced a 4 year plan to pay back more than $900,000 in taxes to the county, Sadsbury and Summit townships and the Conneaut School District.

The other taxing bodies have gone on record supporting a sale. The chairman of the commissioners says he doesn't want the county to be on the sideline if there is a sale.

Commissioner Francis Weiderspahn said, "If the other two municipalities and the school district are going to proceed with the sheriff sale, I cannot as a commissioner let the county miss out on the opportunity to collect on the quarter million dollars. I don't know if we would be left out in the cold if we don't participate in that."

Mark Turner,  head of the Economic Progress Alliance, the agency now in charge of the administration of the park declined to comment until after tomorrow's scheduled vote.
