Fire Forces Dozens to Evacuate "That Place" Bar

Posted: Updated:
Dozens of people were forced to evacuate a West 26th Street bar after a fire broke out just after 11pm on Wednesday night.

The fire started near the kitchen area of the bar called "That Place," and smoke poured from the walls.

Deputy chief of the Erie Fire Department, John Carroll, said the owner touched a hot pizza pan to a telephone cord, which sparked, and may have started the fire.

Crews opened parts of the wall to find the source of the smoke. The health inspector has been notified and will need to give approval before "That Place" can open again.

At 11:30pm, inspector John Widomski was still on scene, investigating.
