What should have been a fun holiday boating trip quickly turned into a nightmare on Thursday, when a boat off of Conneaut Harbor started taking on water.
Ultimately, an effort between several coast guard stations, including Erie, safely landed the stranded pair at Erie International Airport.
Erie's Coast Guard responded to the call around 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon, when a 17 foot vessel reportedly started to sink near Conneaut Harbor.
A Coast Guard helicopter out of Detroit discovered the boat had capsized, and a rescue swimmer jumped in to assist the pair in the water.
They were flown to Erie International Airport, then transported by EMS personnel to UPMC Hamot to get checked out.
No injuries were reported.
