State Police, PennDOT, Launch Campaign to Target Speeders

Posted: Updated:
Pennsylvania State Police and PennDOT launched a new, anti-speeding campaign today.

It's called "Operation Sneak Peek" and it gives drivers two chances to slow down before they risk getting a ticket.  PennDOT sets up a sign that indicates a vehicle's speed in flashing lights.  A similar sign is set up down the road, matching the driver's speed with the posted speed limit.  If the driver doesn't slow down after the second sign, a state trooper with a radar gun should be waiting.

"The goal of this is to get people to slow down, to not be aggressive, so that they can get to their destination safe," said Tpr. Steve Oler.

"Operation Sneak Peek" will end on August 31.  The extra patrols are being funded by $2.5 million in federal funds.
