Bus riders may soon pay more to get around the Erie area.
The "e", or Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority, is considering a 15 cent fare increase.
If approved, it will go into effect, this fall. The prices of tickets, passes, and transfers will also increase, depending on that decision.
The "e" last increased fares in 1997. Rising gas prices, increased operating expenses, and diminishing federal funding, drive the proposed fare increase.
The "e" will hold hearings July 15 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Erie Intermodal Transportation Center at the Holland Street Pier, and July 29 at those same times at the Edinboro Borough Building, Council Chambers for public comment.
