The pie-making operation started at 7:30 Monday morning, at the First Presbyterian Church, in North East.
So far, the volunteers have made more than 100 pies, but they plan to bake about 1,000.
Some of the ingredients include 550 pounds of flour, 200 pounds of shortening and 82 big buckets of cherry pie filling.
The festival takes months of planning and lots of dedicated volunteers who come back year, after year."You know, for the most part it's the same people every year," said event organizer, Lois Silverling. "They just like to do it, and some of them don't even belong to our church."
The festival gets underway Tuesday night.
