Suspected Credit Union Robber in Custody

A suspected bank robber is custody and was being questioned by Erie Police Monday night.

Erie police say they picked up their suspect, 40- year- old Jason Hazlett, around 9:00 p.m. Monday night, at 2nd and Wallace Street in Erie. 

It's just about 8 hours after they say he robbed an Erie credit union.

Police told us they got about half a dozen phone tips, and found out Hazlett was on state parole.

Parole officers were able to verify the surveillance picture released by police, was Hazlett.

Erie Police say just before 1:00 Monday afternoon, Hazlett walked into the Erie Community Credit Union at 12th and State Street and handed the teller a note demanding money.

It was a bold move during the busy lunch hour, in a heavy traffic area of downtown Erie.

Hazlett is awaiting arraignment at the Erie Police Department. He's expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning.
