Should the former Erie City Clerk be hired as a paid consultant, on top of his pension earnings?
That was the question up for debate Wednesday night, at the Erie City Council meeting.
A resolution was put forth to hire retired clerk James Klemm as a consultant for a year at the rate of $1,000 a month.
Klemm receives a $69,000 pension. Dissenting members questioned whether his services were needed, and councilman Bob Merski, who voted against the hiring, said he saw it as a luxury, not a necessity, given the state of the city's finances.
However, council ultimately approved the move in a vote of 4 to 3.
