New Security Measures at the Erie County Court House

Posted: Updated:

The Erie County sheriff's department is taking extra security measures to protect deputies at the entrance of the Court House.

Friday morning, two panes of ballistic, (or bullet-proof) glass were placed near the front doors.

The Sheriff's office acquired the barriers, from a state grant.  Homeland Security and the Erie County 911 Center helped to make it happen.

Erie County Sheriff, John Loomis, said no attack has ever happened, but the barriers are there to protect deputies against any attempted assault with a firearm.

"Nothing bad has ever happened and we hope it never does.  Any added resource for security, we'll take anytime," he said.

Two panes of the same glass were also placed at the Crawford County Court House.
