Directed voluntarily issued a Recall in the U.S. and Canada for certain Remote Start/Interface Products Installed in Vehicles having Push to Start Ignition Systems.

VISTA, Calif., July 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Directed  today announces a voluntary recall of select Directed Remote Start/ Interface Systems that have been installed on vehicles having Push to Start ignitions manufactured between 2008 and 2015. The recall only affects products installed on vehicles having Push to Start ignitions. Product installed on vehicles having an ignition system requiring a key are not affected.

In certain installation configurations, the remote start or interface product may cause unintended vehicle engine shut down in push to start vehicles. Directed has identified that the root cause is related to software in select models of its AutoStart products, and its DBALL interface products. The company has taken immediate action and the issue has been corrected for all product sold after July 15, 2014. To date, no injuries or accidents have been reported to Directed as a result of this issue. Out of an abundance of caution to ensure the absolute safety and satisfaction of its customers, Directed has initiated this recall for product sold prior to this date.

Consumers with an Autostart Remote Start System or DBALL interface that have been installed with Viper, Clifford, Python, AutoMate, AstroStart, Avital and Autostart products  and installed on Push to Start vehicles, model years between 2008 and 2015, should visit www.directed.com/recall or call Directed customer service at 1-888-770-7122 to learn if their system is affected. Consumers with affected systems should immediately contact the retailer that installed their system for a service update. Recalled systems will be repaired at no cost to the consumer within three days of the agreed service date. If the retailer is unable to remedy the defect, we recommend that consumers call Directed customer service to help identify an alternate remedy. Consumers that are unable to have the remote start service performed without charge and within a reasonable time may also submit a written complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street S.W., Washington, DC 20590, or call 1-800-424-9393.
