Erie Man's Work Recognized on CBS "Undercover Boss"

A man who grew up in Erie was featured on the CBS Television program "Undercover Boss" on Sunday night. His name is Lawrence Smith. Relatives tell us he played football for East High School in his teen years.

In the Sunday episode of "Undercover Boss," Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto went undercover, following Lawrence Smith, a carpenter with the Pittsburgh Housing Authority, out on the job.

Lawrence did so well in demonstrating his work and work ethic, that the mayor rewarded him with a new position, mentoring young people in his work which is building affordable housing.

The mayor also awarded Smith with  20-thousand-dollars toward his dream of building a church. Smith has also become a minister.   Family members back here in Erie tell us they're so proud.  They say Lawrence Smith was into drugs at one time and really turned his life around.  He's lived in Pittsburgh for about 15 years.
