NORTH EAST, Pa. - More than 11 hours later, a standoff involving Northeast police as well as the Erie County Sheriffs and State Troopers, has come to an end.

The standoff started around 4:15 p.m. Monday after a neighbor called in a report of a man standing outside with a gun.

Upon police arrival, a man barricaded himself into a home on 52 Vine Street and refused to come out.

State Police evacuated a majority of the homes in the area. Some of the residents were not able to access their homes.

State Police SRT Team used extreme tactical equipment to try and make contact with the individual or gain access to the home.

State Police were negotiating with the individual from an armored vehicle around 11:40 p.m. Troopers used several flashbangs minutes later.

Troopers finally gained access to the home around 3:15 Tuesday morning.

They found a man lying in bed with a single gunshot wound to the head. That man is being identified as 59-year-old Rick Irwin.

Mr. Irwin was the only person in the residence at the time.
