VA2K Walk and Roll Raises Awareness about Homeless Veterans

The Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center is creating awareness about homeless veterans while promoting health and wellness at the same time.

It held its annual VA2K Walk and Roll Wednesday.

Veterans, their families and community members were invited to walk or ride in a wheelchair two kilometers.

A Tai Chi class was offered as an alternative for those with limited mobility.

Donated were accepted to raise money for the VA's homeless veterans program.

"For the homeless veterans, our goal is to make homelessness brief, rare and non-recurring," said Michael Wehrer, supervisor of the homeless care team. "So, when we do find homeless veterans, we want to help them get housed permanently as fast as we can. We have lots of programs here at the VA to allow us to do that."

This is the 8th year for the Walk and Roll.
