The calls for stronger gun control are growing throughout the country after Friday's Texas high school shooting, but a group in Corry stands by people's right to own a gun and use it in a safe way.

The Corry High School trap team is bringing the community together for gun safety and shining light on a complicated issue.

The trap team hosted its community marksmanship challenge Saturday at the Corry Rod and Gun Club.

The Corry Police and Fire Departments and other first responders were among the participants.

Congressman Mike Kelly also showed up at the event.

The goal besides raising money is to give a better spin on gun rights.

"We think that [we are] properly teaching the kids how to responsibly handle firearms," said Carla Proper, secretary of Corry Trap Club. "You'll see that there are certified people on the lines teaching and making sure that people are handling them safely."

Funds raised from the marksmanship challenge will pay for equipment, food and events for the Corry High School Trap Team.
