Rodgers Leads EDGA Amateur on Day One

Brent Rodgers fired a 3-under 69 to lead the 94th E.D.G.A. Amateur tournament after day one. Ryan Deimel carded a 2-under 70 while Tim Moore was the other golfer in red figures with a 1-under 71. Michael Garcia and Mark Noce are tied for fourth at Even par though 18 holes. The opening round of play also saw two female competing in the tournament. The finals of the EDGA Jr. Match Tournament is set. In the Boys Semi-Finals, Jordon Henry upset top seeded Andrew Bitton 1-up while Ryan Podufal beat Ryan Matlock 1-up to reach the finals. On the girls side, Meghan Moylan beat Claire Orr 7 and 6 while Georgia Capotis was winner over Emily Yovich 2 and 1. Local Swimmers Qualify for 2015 Nationals

Prior to competing at this week's Junior National Swimming Championships in Irvine, California, two local swimmers already qualified for 2015. Swimming for Erie Aquatics, Griffin Schaetzle and Brent Benedict each qualified for an event next year. Schaetzle dropped over 7 seconds off his time in the 200 butterfly and posted a time of 2:6.59. The Erie Seawolves made three early runs stand up and held on for a 3-2 win at Altoona Tuesday night. Dean Green hit his second homer in asa many night for the Seawolves. With Akron losing, Erie moves to within four and a half games of the wild card playoff spot in the Western Division. The two teams will conclude the three game series with a noon start on Wednesday. Miller Joins Edinboro Coaching Staff

Edinboro University and football head coach Scott Browning announced on Monday that former Arizona Cardinals coach Mike Miller will be their new offensive coordinator in 2014. Miller replaces Bryan Volk who left the program earlier in the summer to pursue other opportunities. Despite rainy and blustery conditions at Downing golf course, Stephanie Urban topped the field to win this year's E.D.W.G.A. stroke play tournament with a 153 gross total. Former District 10 AA champion Megan Moylan finished runner-up with a 155 total. Amy Gierlak placed third. The Erie Explosion announced this afternoon that Shawn Liotta will be back as their head coach in 2015. It will mark the 9th season of indoor football for Liotta with six of those season in Erie. Albion Wins Region Eight Tournament

The Albion Post 567 baseball team has won the Region 8 Tournament with an 8-0 win over St. Marys. They finished the tournament with a perfect record and now qualify for the state tournament in Boyerstown next week. The NFL has taken a lot of flak over the suspension of Rice for only two games and he got off legally pretty well by just having to agree to go through counseling and probation.
