Erie County Judge Michael Dunlavey has announced his retirement.
He'll retire from the bench on August 1st.
In his letter of retirement to President Judge Ernest DiSantis, Dunlavey says he's retiring, to focus on his health.
He was diagnosed with cancer late last fall, and has been under treatment since 2002, for other medical issues, in connection with his military service in the Middle East.
Judge Dunlavey has been an Erie county judge since 1999.
Dunlavey is of course also a decorated member of the US Armed Forces. A Major General in the US Army, he was recalled to active duty, after the September 11th attacks.
