Two young women are now headed to trial, charged with the vicious beating death of a third young woman in May. The body of the victim was found in a shallow grave outside Cochranton.

A District Judge today ordered Jade Olmstead and Ashley Barber held on homicide and other charges for the death of 20-year old Brandy Stevens.

It was an emotional day in court for the victim's family and friends as they listed to graphic testimony about the beating. A state trooper said the defendants confessed to the crime, telling him they hit the victim with a shovel, smashed her head against a stump, and choked her with a rope.

Linda Ser, friend of the victim, said, "I hope they get what they deserve, maybe the death penalty is too good for them because it is too fast. Maybe they should rot in prison for the rest of their lives where they will be tormented and have to live with the guilt."

The co-defendants will be formally arraigned August 24. It is not yet known if prosecutors will seek the death penalty if the women are convicted of first degree murder.
