Two baby screech owls found Monday night on an east side Erie street are now under care at the Tamarack Wildlife Center near Saegertown.
The owls, are less than 4 weeks old, and not yet able to fly. They are a bit underweight but seem to be in pretty good shape.
Volunteers hope to release them back to their parents or another family of owls if all goes well. Right now they are careful to limit human contact with the baby birds.
Carol Holmgren of the Tamarack Wildlife Center said, "People only see them when they can't been seen by the owls. They are totally cute and adorable. But we are making every effort to minimize contact so they are not seeing humans and getting confused about who they are."
The owls were brought to the center because they would have been easy prey for cats or larger birds.
The center depends on donations to continue working to help wildlife. You can get more information on the organization's web site, www.tamarackwildlife.org
