Pirates Coming to Presque Isle Bay

Posted: Updated:

In the movies pirates are in the Caribbean but by August, pirates will be in Presque Isle Bay too.

Rum Runners owner Tim Sedney announcing a half million dollar project called Scallywags, which will bring two pirate-based ships to the Erie market.

A 60-foot, 75 passenger pirate cruise ship is currently being built and is expected in Erie by the end of the month.

Coupled with a smaller ship, the two can hold mock pirate battles complete with water cannons.

Sedney hopes to run five 90-minute cruises a day; more kid friendly fare during the day and perhaps bar cruises at night and on weekends.

"We've studied the markets for a long time," he told us. "There are several other markets very successful with it (pirate themes). Who doesn't love pirates, everybody loves pirates."

Sedney is hoping to coordinate the arrival of the ship with the 25th anniversary celebration of Rum Runners, which his parents started at the end of Dobbin's Landing. The bar will award a three thousand dollar travel voucher to the person who buys the 1,000,000 Rum Runner, the bar's signature drink.
