Spook-tacular House Draws Crowds on Halloween

Posted: Updated:

It's All Hallows Eve. The one night of the year where we look forward to the spooks and haunts. And one house on East 35th Street in the City of Erie is taking the scare factor to extreme.

"I think it was really unexpected," said trick-or-treater Billy Williams of Erie. "It was really scary."

"Yeah, especially when those zombie guys and that steam blew on me and all that," said trick-or-treater Eli Lundberg.

"I just had to cover my eyes like really hard," said trick-or-treater Owen Lundberg.

"People were jumping out yelling! They looking like statues then [they jumped]," said trick-or-treater Emily Kones of Erie. "And there's a girl in a coffin!"

They're talking about Jerry Waidley's Haunted Walk Through. He's been doing it for 15 years. It started out with newspaper-stuffed dummies in the front yard, and grew to incorporate a graveyard and corn maze.

Each year, the kids line up to see it.

"They love it! Even the small ones, they absolutely love it," said Waidley. "We give candy to the ones that don't want to go through, but the kids that are brave enough, we encourage to give it a try and they absolutely love it."

"We've been talking about it for so long, to come just to this exact one," said trick-or-treater Michalina Ennis of Erie.

The rain and the wind gave this night that extra Eerie feeling. And the kids, didn't mind getting their costumes a little wet, if it meant getting that candy.

"It's fun but last year it didn't rain this much," said trick-or-treater Janiah McLaurin of Erie.

"We wanted to see the haunted house, because it's fun," said Eli Lundberg. "Because we do it every year, it's fun."

"I like it and we didn't want to miss Halloween," said Williams.

"Because I like candy really much," said Owen Lundberg.

"I like it just for the fun of it. Being with my family and being trick-or-treating with people," said trick-or-treater Aviona Perkins of Erie.

Waidley said one year they saw 650 kids. This year they were expecting over 500.
