Erie Exceeds 100 Inches with Latest Snowfall

Posted: Updated:

Another snowstorm made it a real challenge for area drivers, and a hassle for just about everyone else. City plows struggled to keep streets clear, but it wasn't easy.

And blowing snow made driving difficult. Many drivers became stuck in deep snow. It was another tough day in a long, cold, snowy winter.

Driver Lynne Dietsch said, "It is terrible. The roads are not even plowed. I was going to Girard. I could not make it."

Rapid Transit Trucking owner Bob Marcy said, "It is near impossible to maneuver the streets or side streets, especially into the docks with mostly commercial manufacturing."

And today's weather was also tough on people not on the roads. Just shoveling and snow blowing were real challenges.

WICU Chief Meteorologist Geoff Cornish tells us Erie has received 9.2" of snow so far with this storm system.  Before it began, the total for the snow season stood at 94.0".  As of 5 PM, we're over the century mark, at 103.2".

Here are some other preliminary snowfall totals.  (Note: we will see additional snow through Wednesday evening, although additional accumulations will be relatively light.)

Perrysburg, NY: 10.3"
Stevenson Dam: 10.0"
Forestville, NY: 10.0"
Weedville: 8.7"
St. Marys: 7.0"

We'll have an updated list of totals on the air tonight at 10 (on the CW) and 11.

Looking ahead, we'll be locked into a cold weather pattern for the next seven days.  The harsh winter will continue with highs in the teens and 20s, and lows frequently in the single digits over the next week or so.
