On Wednesday night local leaders and political candidates had a chance to learn about issues specifically important to members of the LGBT community.
The forum was put on in part by the Northwest Pa Pride Alliance.
Equality in employment was brought forward as one of the biggest obstacles gay and transgender people face.
The gathering was an opportunity for the LGBT community to raise awareness about inequality that people may not realize, and motivate local politicians to take action.
"There's currently no legislation at the state or federal level in the areas of employment, housing, and public accommodations," said Michael Maher of NW PA Pride Alliance.
"I personally know people who have moved away from the state because (they) don't feel as protected here, and so they take the education and skills that they have developed, and other areas are benefiting from our population," Maher added.
Most districts were represented at the meeting. Among the guests were Flo Fabrizio, and Democratic Party Chair Bill Cole.
