Big Cat Exhibit Work Underway

Posted: Updated:
Crews are now hard at work building a new big cats exhibit at the Erie Zoo.
Crews are totally renovating the 50-year old exhibit area that housed lions and polar bears. It will become home to a pair of Canadian lynx and two rare amur leopards.
The public will see the outdoor areas. But much of the project focuses on the behind the scene improvements.
Erie Zoo Director Scott Mitchell said, "There was just some general work that needed to be done, particularly in the off exhibit areas where people don't get to see but where the animals spend time as well. It was just time for them to be rehabilitated and a whole new look."
Mitchell hopes the project will be done sometime in September or October.
