ATF agents spent most of the day at a home on East 33rd Street in Erie. The agents were joined by bomb squad members from the Erie Police Department and bomb squad members from Millcreek Police and the Erie County Sheriff's Department.
The officers removed over 60 guns from the home at 827 East 33rd Street as surprised neighbors watched. Dozens of boxes of fireworks were also loaded onto a truck an driven away. The Special Agent in Charge would not comment on the investigation except for saying it was an "enforcement action."
Neighbors described the residents of the home as "an older couple" in their 60s or 70s. They described the couple as "very friendly and neighborly."
Agents asked neighbors on either side of the residence to vacate their homes as the investigation began. An Emergycare ambulance stood by down the block as the officers searched the home. The Erie County HAZMAT team was called to the home around 9:30pm. It is unknown what prompted that call.
Similar investigations took place today at two homes in Crawford County.
