Testimony Continues in Erie Homicide Trial

Testimony continues in the homicide trial against an Erie man charged with fatally shooting another man outside of an east side bar.

Grover Lyons, 26, is claiming self-defense in the shooting death of 28-year-old Darrin Germany.

The exchange of gunfire happened on New Year's Eve of 2016, outside of Bogey's Tavern on Buffalo Road.

A key witness by the name of Darrell Johnson took the stand on Wednesday, to testify.

Johnson was shot in the leg, during the violent incident.

Johnson testified that Lyons had nothing to do with the fight inside of Bogey's Tavern, which happened right before the shooting.

Once Johnson was shot in the leg, he said that Lyons picked him up and then returned gunfire towards Germany.

However, Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri said Johnson’s testimony does not match up with surveillance video, which was recovered from the tavern.

In the video, prosecutors say Lyons is seen shooting a gun towards Germany, while Johnson is still on the ground.

Lyons originally pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection to Germany's death, last October.

However, he withdrew his guilty plea and was ordered to stand trial for criminal homicide.

The trial continues Thursday morning, in front of Judge John J. Mead.
